Rohan Ursal, chairman, PHFPC, said the shipment consisted of 550 kg of the fruit, sourced from local farmers having GI certification. "We exported the consignment to Hong Kong on February 10 with help from Scion Agricos.
Now, we have got orders for Purandar figs not only from Hong Kong, but also from Malaysia and Singapore," he said.
"We have given these countries a commitment that we will export one consignment of around 400-600 kg of Purandar figs every week till April 15. Next year, we plan to commence export from November onwards," the FPC chairman said.
Last year, the company carried out a trial consignment to Hamburg, Germany, and then later to a few European Union and South Asian Countries, he said. "We have received a lot of interest for Purandar figs from Cambodia and the Middle East. We are currently evaluating factors such as pricing," he said.
